There is just this little unspoken line that is crossed when the kids finally start school and the air feels a little more crisp in the mornings that has you whispering Fall. With each season comes a variety of new colors and textures to play with and a way to bring new life into any home. While I think we can agree that we are all trying to hang on to the last moments of summer, I am all about adding a few seasonal decor pieces to my home to make it start feeling like Fall. Do you struggle with finding a way to seamlessly transition from Summer to Fall without it feeling overwhelming? Today I’m sharing 5 easy ways to transition your home decor to Fall!
Fall home decor is one of my absolute favorites to experiment with! Cozy throws, Fall inspired prints, dried florals and seasonal stems, decorative pillow covers, textured rugs, and rich colored vessels are all ways you can easily transition your home without much effort. While August can feel like Summer’s mean step-sister no one invited to the party, I promise, she can be fun!
1. Throw Pillows and Blankets
Switching to seasonal decor for fall is all about bringing out those warm hues! I love adding patterned pillows and chunky throw blankets to my sofa. Swap out any bright accent colors for darker neutrals, muted orange and yellow accents, olive greens, and deep chocolate browns. Throw pillow covers are the simplest way to add these colors into your space. If you’re unsure about how to arrange pillows, check out my Pillow Talk post first!
2. Pumpkins, Vases, and Leaves
I will admit, I’ve been guilty of overdoing the pumpkin decor but over the years I’ve learned how to create a tasteful autumn aesthetic. Delicate details that incorporate autumn touches keep your space sophisticated while allowing for that compulsory pumpkin touch. Pottery Barn has some beautiful glass pumpkins that I love! They offer a minimal Fall feel while still keeping it festive. Target also has some really fun ceramic pumpkins in varying sizes that would look beautiful layered on a coffee table, shelf or dresser.
Consider adding faux branches with leaves instead of bright florals or greenery. Not a fan of faux stems? Try incorporating some dried floral or pampas grass in a stormy colored vessel. Personally, creating variations of stems, leaves, and grass is my favorite as this brings seasonal color into any room in my house. Not to mention my adoration of vases.
The key to a visually pleasing space is balance. A couple small alterations to your accent color can make all the difference. Another easy addition to fall decor is woven baskets to hold extra blankets/ pillows in. A few here and there add to that autumn aesthetic plus they always look great with a blanket perfectly draped off the edge.
3. A Cozy Autumn Bedroom
This can be the time to change up your bedding, also! When you feel that chilly & crisp fall air outside, try a dark colored velvet duvet cover or warm toned linens. We may love white sheets in the summer but now is the perfect time to try new colors. Seasonal decor for fall is the easiest aspect of your home to have fun with and include characteristic touches.
4. Inviting Fall Scents
Wrap yourself up with autumn aromas in your home to match the warm darker tones. Incorporate vanilla & mahogany candles, teakwood & bergamot linen sprays, and orange spice & cinnamon oil diffusers. Fall definitely has no shortcomings of candles and I’ve included some of my favorite stores to shop them!
5. Dark Colored Furniture
The entryway is the first place you see when entering you home so why not make it seasonally inspired? A dark colored side table here can be just the piece of furniture you’re looking to switch out for the season. In the living room, try a dark colored tv stand or coffee table. Another easy option is one of these upholstered cubes from Target that luckily come in a wide range of colors. Don’t have enough storage space to swap out furniture pieces? Try a dark colored mirror to hang in the entryway or lighting fixtures that exude those fall tones.
