The best way to get the most out of your outdoor patio this summer is by styling it the right way! Choosing the right furniture and embracing the same decor elements of your interior space will help you create a patio oasis. Here are a few tips for styling your outdoor space!
1. Lounge & Dining Space
Lounge
A cozy and comfortable patio lounge set is essential for getting the most use out of your outdoor space! Whether hanging out with the family or enjoying your favorite book outside, find furniture you can’t wait to sink into! I would highly recommend purchasing high-quality, waterproof, and durable outdoor pieces. The outdoors can be brutal on furniture and you’ll spend more money replacing cheaper sets year after year. Another good option is to invest in high-quality furniture covers to ensure everything is protected!
Dining
The same rule applies to outdoor dining sets- purchase high-quality water-resistant pieces! This is especially important for all of you in humid climates as the moisture in the air will escalate that daily wear and tear.
2. Fire Feature
Adding a fire feature to your outdoor space adds extra coziness. They are perfect for those slightly chilly summer nights. If you don’t have a built-in fireplace outside, I would absolutely recommend purchasing a stand-alone firepit! Adding a firepit also extends the time you can spend outdoors. Who doesn’t love roasted smores and warm feet?
3. Add Area Rugs
Area rugs look just as amazing outdoors as they do indoors. If your patio seems to be missing something, it’s most likely an outdoor rug! A great tip is always to purchase the larger rug! You want all of your furniture to fit on top of the rug as one that’s too small will make the space look awkward.
4. Planters
A patio setup wouldn’t be complete without planters for all that greenery! Not only do planters and greenery add that perfect touch of decor, but it also allows you to swap out seasonal accents easily! Use varying sizes of planters to create depth and dimension and don’t be afraid to mix and match! I’ve found some of my favorite planters on Amazon and from Walmart. They look so similar to designer alternatives but are so much more affordable!
5. Lighting
Accent lighting is a must on your patio! Something as easy as string lights draped throughout your outdoor space would be a great addition. You can also add more permanent elements like pendants or sconces!
6. Decorative Accents
Don’t be afraid to style your outdoor space the same as you would your interiors! Make sure to extend the same decor style outside to maintain cohesion throughout! To make your life easier, purchase furniture covers large enough to fit the pillows and throws underneath. An outdoor storage bench or table is another solution to place all your patio decor into when you’re not using it!
Pillows & Throws
Style your pillows and throws the same way you would indoors. Use different sizes and textures to create depth and visual interest. Of course, waterproof pillows work best just in case you forget to put them away before the rain comes in. I also love adding a few wicker blanket baskets to store all my throws.
