When it comes to hosting guests, there is one statement dish everyone adores… the charcuterie board. Halloween is right around the corner, making it the perfect time to learn how to incorporate spooky details into your board. Here are a few tips I’ve learned over the years for creating a festive Halloween charcuterie board.
1. Salami Roses
You may have laughed to yourself reading that, but the way these salami flowers instantly brighten up your board is no joking matter. All you need is plenty of salami slices and a wine glass. I’ve linked a tutorial video for you here! Spread them out around your board. I usually stick with only two or three depending on how large the tray I’m working with is.
2. Add Decorative Pieces
Certain elements of your board can easily be used as decor. Throw on a few small pumpkins, two or three depending on the size of your board. Personally, I love using small jars of jams with cute small spoons to create height variation. Different jam flavors, or rather colors, can also brighten up the whole aesthetic. Sliced figs or slices of orange can function as both edible and decorative. Sliced citrus is so bright and pretty; it will instantly make your festive Halloween charcuterie board pop with color!
3. Fill in Empty Space
Creating a visually pleasing and festive charcuterie board becomes much easier when removing any negative space. Make small piles of nuts, berries, or crackers to fill up your board. Placing honey, jam, or cracker sticks inside small ramekins or stemless wine glasses helps create some visual variations as well as taking up some space.
4. Use Different Colors
Incorporate all your favorite fall colors by using different colored fruits, nuts, and decor pieces. A festive idea is to spread a red jam on top of a coffin shaped piece of Brie. The pop of red on the Brie’s white exterior will draw the eye to it. Using bunched up purple grapes also helps the color palate while keeping them from rolling around on the board. Lastly, don’t forget your skeleton hand!
5. Find the Right Board
Choose a board large enough to fit everything you need! A dark colored board for Halloween, fall, or winter entertaining is perfect as it exudes the color theme of the season. It’ll also help make white ramekins and those bright colored jams stand out!
