As someone who has installed my fair share of cabinet hardware, I know firsthand that it can be a tricky process. With so many options to choose from and so many different types of cabinets to work with, it can be difficult to know where to start. Nickel or silver? Knobs or pulls? Can I mix any of these together? These are probably the questions running through your head, but fear not! I’ve put together this easy cabinet hardware placement guide to help you make the most of your cabinets.
3 Universal Tips for Cabinet Hardware Placement
1. Knobs on Doors, and Pulls on Drawers
While this has absolutely been a fairly universal tip for cabinet hardware placement, that doesn’t mean you have to follow it! Switching it up can create a stunning aesthetic choice! Below you’ll see two very common design choices. The first photo depicts knobs on the top portion of the cabinets and pulls on the bottom. The picture on the right shows knobs on the doors and pulls on the drawers.
If you prefer a very clean and sophisticated aesthetic, it’s completely fine to keep everything uniform as depicted below. Below are two examples of using all knobs or all pulls!
2. Use Two Pulls or Two Knobs for Large Drawers
When drawers are larger than 24″, double up on the pulls and knobs! When installing them, divide the width of the drawer frame into thirds and then place each knob to the left and right marks. For a very modern look you can choose extra long pulls to span the drawers and doors. For a pull, it should be at least 8″ long.
3. Use Appropriate Hardware for Appliances
For the larger panelled doors and drawers on appliances, you’ll need appliance pulls! Yes, they can match all the other hardware you have in your kitchen, they’re just going to be a bit larger!
Consider the Placement Aesthetic
Something to think about when you’re placing your hardware is whether you want it to feel modern or traditional, do you prefer it to be stylish or functional. This is going to depend on your style preferences and how often you actually use your kitchen 😉
A great place to choose the stylish middle of the drawer knob placement is in the bathroom as seen below!
