Laundry seems to be a never-ending task in my home. With three kids and as someone who hates wearing something twice without washing it, laundry really adds up! I know firsthand how important having a functional and well-designed laundry room is. Here are some must-have laundry room additions that I think every laundry room should have:
1. Laundry Room Counter
First and foremost, a built-in counter is a must-have in any laundry room. This provides a convenient workspace for folding clothes, ironing, or even just sorting laundry. I love having a counter with plenty of space to spread out, so I don’t feel cramped while I’m working.
2. Statement Lighting
Statement lighting is a fantastic way to elevate the look and feel of any room, and the laundry room is no exception. Accent lighting or task lighting are two options you should absolutely add!
Accent Lighting
Chandeliers and pendant lighting can really spruce up your laundry room. These can add a decorative touch to the space while also obviously providing general lighting.
Task Lighting
My favorite lighting option for the laundry room are sconces! These can be installed above the counter or sink to provide focused lighting for specific tasks like folding laundry or ironing.
3. Dog Amenities
Adding dog amenities to the laundry room can be a game-changer for pet owners. This can include a built-in pet shower, a feeding station, or even a dog bed. Having these amenities in the laundry room makes it easy to clean up after your pet and keep their belongings organized.
4. Hanging Station
A laundry hanging station is a great addition for anyone who wants to avoid wrinkled clothes. This can be as simple as adding a rod for hanging clothes to dry or incorporating it into custom cabinetry.
5. Statement Flooring
Since the laundry room is often a smaller and more utilitarian space, it’s the perfect place to experiment with bold flooring choices. For example, you might consider a patterned tile or colorful linoleum to add some visual interest. If you prefer a more classic look, hardwood or tile flooring can still make a statement with interesting textures or finishes.
6. Built-In Laundry Hampers
Another essential addition to any laundry room is built-in hampers. This is a great way to keep dirty clothes organized and out of sight. I prefer hampers that are built directly into the cabinetry, so I don’t have to worry about tripping over a freestanding hamper or having it take up valuable floor space.
8. Decorative Accents
Finally, don’t forget that your laundry room is still a room in your home, just like any other! Decorate it the same way you would the other rooms! An incredibly beneficial addition to laundry room decor is decorative baskets! They can hold just about everything, from detergent pods to extra towels!
In conclusion, there are a lot of must-have laundry room additions that can make your space more functional and stylish. Remember, make your home comfy for you and your needs!
