We very frequently overlook our ceilings in terms of design and some of these recent trends may be a bit out of the box. This does not mean you shouldn’t try them! I’m absolutely in love with these 5 ceiling trends and I think you will be too after reading this blog and checking out the inspo behind them!
1. Wallpaper Ceilings
Firstly, wallpapering ceilings is a creative way to add texture and a pop of color to your space. A little bit of visual surprise never hurt anyone and it can do wonders for creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Whether it’s a subtle textured print or a more bold and colorful option, adding wallpaper to your ceiling adds such a unique touch to your home! As with all things, don’t go overboard!
2. Beams and Trusses
Beams. I can’t say enough about beams. Structural elements like beams and stresses are a work of art inside a home. They can immediately give a space a rustic and warm atmosphere. Painted or stained beams can provide a more traditional or contemporary look while natural and exposed wood oozes those cozy and organic vibes. Beams and trusses are architectural features that can also be used to define different living “areas” within an open-concept home. Bring some personality and charm into literally any space with this ceiling trend!
3. Coffered Ceilings
What exactly is a coffered ceiling? Well, it’s a series of recessed panels or boxes that create a grid-like pattern on the ceiling. It exudes elegance and sophistication and kind of makes me want to break out a cigar and glass of brandy. Just kidding. This ceiling trend is usually a popular choice for formal living areas like a dining room or library. The depth and shadows created by the recessed panels are stunning and make a space feel much larger! It’s such an underutilized yet timeless design trend that adds so much architectural interest to a home!
4. Shiplap
Another visually stunning ceiling trend where we take a wall treatment and place it on the ceiling. Because these ceiling trends really focus on adding character to a room, you’ll never feel as if your space isn’t homey enough by utilizing them. Shiplap is a timeless and elegant design option and like the other trends creates a visually dynamic space. This trend works beautifully alongside architectural beams so don’t be afraid to use multiple trends in one room.
5. Painted Ceilings
We are done painting our ceilings white! Using a darker color can make a room feel cozier, intimate, and more visually dynamic. Depending on the color and finish a painted ceiling can change the perceived height of a room! If you’re looking at a room and thinking to yourself… what’s missing here? It’s probably a missing cohesive link that ties everything together. The solution? Painting your ceiling in a color that ties your color scheme together. Remember though, a dark ceiling can and will make a small room appear even smaller.
